Starting 12 October 2025, a new European Entry/Exit System (EES) will begin implementation across external borders of 29 countries. Under this system, non-EU citizens crossing into the Schengen area on short stays will have their data recorded electronically – effectively replacing manual passport stamping.
The rollout will occur gradually over six months, during which the system may not be active at every border crossing. Once fully deployed, EES will operate at all external border entries and exits.
